Perception in life is powerful because it’s your senses working together to make judgments about daily life.
I remember going to an IMAX movie a couple of years ago highlighting humans and the way transportation had changed and advanced through the years. It was interesting to see so many changes in how we can get from one place to another. It also probably helped that I am the son of an auto mechanic and saw just how incredible the internal combustion engine was and the transfer of a fuel system to produce inertia and create speed. Traveling on an airplane is something else that is mind boggling to me. How something so large and heavy can lift off of the ground and get to anywhere on earth in a matter of hours is just crazy. Maybe you are deathly afraid of flying on an airplane versus other forms of transportation. Is your perception that driving in a car, for instance, is safer than flying in an airplane? Look at this article excerpt from the website curiosity.com about flying versus riding or driving a car. In 2016, 325 people died in 19 airplane crashes worldwide. That might seem like a lot, but more than 2,500 left-handed people are killed every year from using equipment meant for right-handed people. Despite big-budget Hollywood films' depictions of plane crashes, flying is actually the safest mode of transportation. In fact, the odds of a plane crash are one for every 1.2 million flights, with odds of dying one in 11 million. Your chances of dying in a car or traffic accident are one in 5,000. Aren’t those crazy stats about how SAFE flying is versus transportation in a car? So if these statistics are true, then why do so many people have a fear of flying? I would say that it is the perception in people and the focus media sources put on airplane crashes. Our PERCEPTION is that when we get into a car that we are in control and not relying on someone else and their judgment. In fact, it is more dangerous to be in control of our own vehicle rather than trust in an airplane with someone else doing the navigating. The truth in the Word about God in control of our lives is the very same thing. It is harder to trust in God being in control of life than to trust ourselves and THINK we control situations. We live in a sensory world that wants to override the foundational truths and “Biblical statistics” that can tell a very different story from what we see and hear on a daily basis. Trusting in God is as much about forgetting that we can control all the bad things that happen to us as it is hiding the word of God in our hearts. When we hide the word of God in our heart, we don’t just read words but find ways to let those principles soak into our mind that affects our hearts and then directs our actions. We must train ourselves to not look at situations from the perspective of doubt and worry but from the perspective of God’s truth. A truth that He has our best interests in mind and that he is opening doors that no man can close and closing doors no man can open. So as a follower of Christ, when perception in life would lead you to believe that you are out of options remember that the circumstances around you are not greater than the truth that lives inside of you. Protection, comfort and direction based on the promises of God are for everyone who puts God FIRST in life and not just for a select few. Today is the day to realize that the only security in life is trusting in God and his plan. Peace of mind in life also comes from understanding that you cannot control if bad things happen in life but you can bring needs and requests to God and have your heart and mind guarded as it says in Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Let your perceptions be moved by the Word of God and its truth that can guide and direct you in every way of life!
