It’s that time of year, when gardeners across the country have done all the work. They’ve cleaned out last year’s vines and stubble, turned the ground, planted the seeds, fertilized and now water and wait. We are counting on nature’s promise of a bountiful garden.
God is counting on us, too. He brought us into the world, nurtured us along the way and now it’s up to us to grow into the people He wants us to be. We make mistakes along the way and He helps us to get back on track. We need nourishment and He feeds and loves us. We stumble and He picks us up. We do all these things for our garden as well. We train the vine to grow up straight for more sunlight, we stake the tomatoes to keep them off the ground, we water and fertilize and keep the pests away. Can’t we also do that for each other? In Galatians 6:9-10 it says “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap". None of us are perfect and at some point along the way we will all need a helping hand. Proverbs 19:17 says “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord and He will repay him for the deed.” In Matthew 25:40 the Bible says “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” As we go about our lives let’s keep an eye open for those who are struggling, may be going through a rough patch or are less fortunate, and lend a hand whenever we can.
