When asking a question about Jesus and his power why is it that people start with a focus on the problem? We start with what we see and hear from the world around us and then we take and compare that trouble with what we know about Jesus and his ability to bring peace. Essentially, we do the same thing that culture is shifting towards which is whatever you believe with your feelings is the truth and then we work backwards from that position. The problem with that thinking is that each person on this earth does not know everything and have every solution worked out. We are limited in our knowledge and when we are moved only by our emotions we can be led astray. We begin to look at our own strength in comparison to the trouble around us and can get into despair and even anger.
Even the Bible speaks to the importance of keeping our emotions in check knowing that we are already bent towards saying and doing things based on our anger at life’s struggles. James 1:19-20 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Anger can be the result of a lot of things. One of those factors can be worry brought on by not listening to God and only listening to the negative report of the world around us. When we spend our lives dwelling on and determining the problems of this earth instead of focusing on Jesus and his love and power we start from a position of defeat instead of victory. Beginning from a place of authority in Jesus and his power is not living a life of ignorance concerning trouble in this life but looking above the trouble to Jesus which helps direct and dictate our minds, emotions and feelings. Never forget that we are the ones in charge of our feelings and emotions. When we realize that the things we feel in life are our responsibility it helps us to shift security off of ourselves and put our hope and trust in God. So the correct question is what are we doing today to allow the perfect strength of Jesus to flow to a world that is hurt, lost and dying? Our free will is what hinders or helps God to do what needs to be done on the earth. When we START with the knowledge of Jesus and his strength, the problem is not the issue. The issue becomes how do we get out of the way and let Jesus’ love flow TO us to heal and then flow THROUGH us. So yes, Jesus IS still strong enough and actually, has never been stronger in the lives of those who put him first. Don’t let people who have a casual acquaintance with Jesus be the barometer of the power of God on the earth. And better yet, ask God to be the conduit to flow to the people you know and meet in this life. The very things we want to see happen in this world for the sake of Christ starts with a willing heart, a listening ear and an asking mouth! Be blessed and rest in the power, strength and knowledge of Jesus for your life. Brian
