We always enjoy going to Cirque performances if they come here to Denver and have seen a total of five shows around the country. Every show is so different in their perspective and how they come up with not just the acrobatics but the sets are beyond me. There is an attention to detail that is amazing on so many levels. The lighting, audio, performers and the overall presentation make it completely worth the money if you can go sometime.
Of all the shows we have been to, we have never seen a mistake in the performances until last night. It was weird to me to see a mistake when you expect to see perfect execution every performance. It is like the presentation of the evening causes you to forget the level of difficulty during everything that is done that night. The mistake came during the juggling act. The performer was juggling six wands with no problem but to add difficulty, he threw one up as high as he could did a back flip and twist then landed it and caught the wand while continuing to juggle the other five. Now, it wasn’t like he was walking across the stage and tripped on his own feet into the orchestra pit as a clumsy oaf. It was probably one of the most difficult juggling stunts I have ever seen. He dropped the wand on his first try but then did the stunt again and performed it flawlessly. You could see the disappointment he had on his face that he made the mistake but everyone in the crowd cheered him on recognizing that it was a trick that NO ONE in the audience could even come close to executing. The point I am making is that the expectation of human perfection in a walk with God can be a hard thing to live up to in life. Whether that comes from an expectation you put on yourself or family and friends have put on you. Maybe we had a family life where we were not allowed to make a mistake because we were supposed to know better. Maybe you have started out your walk with God expecting to never make a mistake again and were sadly disappointed. Maybe you are holding yourself to such a high standard in life that you can’t forgive yourself when you have done something wrong. I am not saying that it’s wrong to seek excellence or that it’s ok to live “sloppy” in life. I am reminded of the verse in James 3:2 “We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.” The point is that as Christians we are human and will make mistakes but we still need to be striving for perfection, which starts with bringing our tongue/words into submission. Today, in living for God, don’t live a life of disappointment in yourself or in so much pride and arrogance that you don’t think you need to strive to be better. When our motivation comes from recognizing that the best thing in us is Jesus, we will want to strive for excellence and realize that in our weakness He are strong. Be encouraged that when our hope is in the Lord,
we will gain strength and not faint. This verse doesn't say that our problems will go away. It just redirects our focus to Jesus and that is always a good thing! I saw this post from Proverbs 31 Ministries and had to share. This is not exclusive to women or men, but as human beings:
"Don’t you wish we could see the cost of our choices as clearly as a price tag on items in a store? If I know how much something will cost me, I make wiser choices. We have an enemy who schemes against us to keep the cost of dumb decisions concealed. Satan’s schemes are specifically targeted to do three things: 1. Increase our desire for something outside the will of God. 2. Make us think giving into a weakness is no big deal. 3. Minimize our ability to think through the consequences of a temptation. Satan is a master of keeping that cost hidden until it’s too late. Think how different life might be if we paused and asked this crucial question: How much will this choice really cost me?" I would also add: How will this choice affect those around me? Let's live our days out intentionally and think about the results of our choices BEFORE we make the choice to say or do something. Let's Live and Love Well! An unforgettable night of worship to inspire, unite and awaken the Church to pursue God's heart for our region. Don't miss this incredible night-September 19th, 2017.
For more information and to purchase tickets visit their website: http://www.worshipontherocks.com/ This verse definitely clears up any misunderstanding that says there are many ways to God. Our salvation is because of the Love that Jesus portrayed on the cross so that we could spend eternity with God. The verses that follow talk about how the religious leaders got angry and were stirred up by this statement from Peter and John. They could not believe that these men knew what they were talking about and plotted to "silence them". The leaders knew that these men had been companions of Jesus and they saw the miracles that were happening and just couldn't wrap their head around the simplicity of the love and grace of Jesus. RELIGION was the religious leaders, rulers and religious scholars driving force and they missed the componant of loving people to the message of repentance.
Let's remember as we love and reach out to people around us that don't know the message of salvation that we don't geting trapped in the condemnation message of repentance and we stick to the simple message of the cross and what Jesus did for our salvation. Go forth and love! Of course, I am typing this tongue in cheek, but how many times do we follow the rules below to make a situation even worse?
When someone offends us the FIRST thing we need to do is guard/watch our tongue and the people we try and pull into our painful situations. There is nothing good that can come from talking bad about someone else, no matter what the situation. Our mind is where the devil wants to play and keep us distracted from working through painful situations and releasing them to God. A true sign of spiritual growth is turning over a destructive thought more quickly than before. There is a power in the verse in Proverbs 27:17 about iron sharpening iron. When we put ourselves around people who we trust to be honest and give us Godly perspective in life we put ourselves in a place of growth in life and not destruction. Remembering what we have been forgiven of with Jesus can be the very best way to release forgiveness to others. There is nothing worse than accepting forgiveness from Jesus and not releasing that same forgiveness to others that offend us. I am not saying there will be no process of releasing things to God, but when we keep our perspective on life and interaction with each other, we can work through pain and not let it keep us from growth in many areas of life.
