I love the word “Suddenly” that begins Acts 2:2. Such a calm verse one of “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. I am sure the day of Pentecost started like any other. Thoughts of seeing Jesus after his resurrection and still wondering how in the world Jesus came back from a crucifixion that the world watched with horror. Watching Thomas place his hand in Jesus’ side and all the disciples looking down at the hands that had touched and healed so many, now with nail scars that were not proof of failure but of victory.
Then...SUDDENLY...power like those waiting had never sensed before. Speaking in other tongues from an overflow of the Spirit coming out of them. A sound so loud that it says in Acts 2:5-6 that it drew a crowd of Jews who could not believe their ears and the wonders of God being spoken by those who were filled while others thought they were drunk because of what they saw and heard. I am sure that Pentecost was a messy, glorious, overflowing, gushing release of the Spirit on mortal flesh like the earth had never seen. After this infilling and the best “suddenly” the world has probably ever known the story didn’t stop there! Being filled with the Spirit, Peter stood up with the disciples and spoke the first Spirit-filled message that ended up adding 3,000 people to the church that day! May we never forget that the power, anointing and wonder of God operating in our lives because of Pentecost was not to just make those in attendance feel better because of missing Jesus who was in heaven. It was, and still is, the power to continue to do the works of Christ on this earth in an even GREATER measure than Jesus himself! May the God of peace, power, protection and anointing continue to endue us with His Spirit to complete the visions and dreams that do not stop until we all reach eternity with HIM! Hallelujah!
