📍 June 29th at Encounter Church- Centennial 📍July 27th at BridgeWay Church- Denver 📍August 24th at The Rock Church- Castle Rock Growing up, and even today in the local church, there is not much talk about decrease, which can sound like something negative, but in reality it is directly connected to increase in life! The cutting away of things that hinder in life can be the best process for bringing about healthy long-term growth in a person’s life or even the church body.
We can be so concerned with speaking, living and breathing increase that we forget the power of pruning. So the big question is what does good decrease or “pruning” professionally or personally needs to look like? John 15:2 talks about not only “branch removal” but pruning in life. Check it out: “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” It is VERY interesting that this verse doesn’t just talk about removing unfruitful branches but cutting on the branches that bear fruit as well! We gloss over that detail and think we will not have pruning from God to improve our fruitfulness. It seems from this verse that God doesn’t just want us to produce “fruit” for the sake of fruit but GOOD and lasting fruit. When we realize that excellence is the expectation, we will live lives that actually accepts pruning and looks forward for times of personal growth. Also, look at the people as a part of a church or ministry. Sometimes God wants to cut or remove people from a church body or ministry to help bring health to an organization AND that the cutting/pruning in the lives of those groups is for benefit and not harm. So we need to pray that God not only brings increase to our lives personally but also DECREASE in things that need to fall away and that are hindering the growth of not just fruit but GREAT fruit. This is also a lesson in how much we trust that God has our best interests in mind and not just the “giving or taking away” that we feel happens during the seasons of life. Trust, at its essence, believes in something that can’t be seen in the physical realm. When we learn to trust that God has everything under control, we can accept the times of increase as well as decrease and expect GREAT fruit either way. It may be time to actually pray FOR decrease in life in the ways that God wants to cut, remove and prune to not just get the most out of you but to get the most IN you to set things up for success in all areas of life! A person dead in trespasses and sins has no desire for spiritual pleasures. When we look upon a corpse, it gives an awful feeling. A never-dying spirit is now fled, and has left nothing but the ruins of a that person. But if we viewed things correctly, we should be far more affected by the thought of a dead soul, a lost, fallen spirit. A state of sin is a state of conformity to this world. Satan is the author of that proud, carnal disposition which there is in ungodly humanity; he rules in the hearts of men/women.
God's eternal love or good-will toward his creatures, is the fountain from where all his mercies flow to us; and that love of God is great love, and that mercy is rich mercy. And every converted sinner is a saved sinner; delivered from sin and wrath. The grace that saves is the free, undeserved goodness and favor of God; and He saves, not by the works of the law, but through faith in Christ Jesus. Grace in the soul is a new life in the soul. A regenerated sinner becomes a living soul; he lives a life of holiness, being born of God: he lives, being delivered from the guilt of sin, by pardoning and justifying grace. It was his purpose, to which he prepared us, by blessing us with the knowledge of his will, and his Holy Spirit producing such a change in us, that we should glorify God by our good conversation, and perseverance in holiness. For more information and to register, visit their website What do you ask God on a daily basis? How much of those prayers/conversations have to do with self or with others? I am guilty sometimes of only considering my walk with God and then if I run into people who need to know about Jesus’ love, good for them that I interact with them on a Spiritual level. In the Bible, there is a huge emphasis on asking things of God.
Matthew 7:7 speaks about “asking, seeking and knocking” Matthew 21:22 directs us to ask God in prayer and then believing for an answer Philippians 4:6 instructs us to be anxious for nothing and to make our requests known to God When we look at those verses, we can put the priority on ourselves first without regard to others and if you think about it, that is actually the opposite of how God wants us to think. Philippians 2:3 (Good News Translation) Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves. I think this verse doesn’t just pertain to the flesh-filling things in life, but prayers that are only considerate of self and not others. Jesus trusted us with the greatest message of not just eternal salvation, but internal peace and direction in life that is unprecedented. When we only pray prayers that involve ourselves, we miss out on one of the greatest gifts we can be given as a follower of Jesus; the ability to be a transformation agent in the life of someone else. Today, tell God what is on your heart, but be careful to listen to what is on his. God’s heart is not only for us, his children, to be cared for in every way but for every living being to have an opportunity to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. Ask God for opportunities to share his love with others and live the full life that God has intended for you. We encourage you to take time to read Proverbs 13 and let it take root. Proverbs 13 New International Version (NIV)
1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. 2 From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. 3 Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. 4 A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. 5 The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves. 6 Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. 7 One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. 8 A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. 9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. 10 Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. 11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. 12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. 13 Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. 14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death. 15 Good judgment wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful leads to their destruction.[a] 16 All who are prudent act with[b] knowledge, but fools expose their folly. 17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. 18 Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. 19 A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil. 20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. 21 Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things. 22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. 23 An unplowed field produces food for the poor, but injustice sweeps it away. 24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. 25 The righteous eat to their hearts’ content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.
