Brian and I use Movie Guide to review content and language that are in movies before we go see them. It has stopped us many times from seeing a movie that we thought would be good, but had things in it that crossed our boundaries that we have set for ourselves. We air 90 second Movie Guide reviews on RMCTN on Monday's at 5pm, Thursday's at 7:30pm and Saturday's at 10:30am. WAYS TO WATCH

Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. The most familiar, and perhaps the most impressive, description of prayer in the Old Testament, is found in those numerous passages where the life of communion with God is spoken of as a waiting upon Him. A great scholar has given a beautiful definition of waiting upon God: "To wait is not merely to remain impassive. It is to expect-to look for with patience, and also with submission. It is to long for, but not impatiently; to look for, but not to fret at the delay; to watch for, but not restlessly; to feel that if He does not come we will submit, and yet to refuse to let the mind submit to the feeling that He will not come." Now, do not let anyone say that such a life is visionary and unprofitable. Who is so practical as God? Who among men so wisely directed His efforts to the circumstances and the occasions which He was called to face, as the Son of Man who is in heaven? Those who pray well, work well. Those who pray most, achieve the grandest results. To use the striking phrase of John Tauler, "In God, nothing is hindered." Sometimes God pauses things as we are walking a path. It doesn't mean it was a wrong decision, it just means He's lining things up the way He needs them to be. Don't let impatience in God's timing cause you to make a wrong decision. Keep seeking God and He will daily show you the path, sometimes those answers are stop, not yet, wait, don't get anxious when you receive those answers. God has a view that we don't have. Let's practice trusting His heart.
God did not sacrifice Jesus on the cross and He does not pursue us because of our sin, but because He loves us!

Well, I know this is shocking, but the Patriots won the Super Bowl last night and I didn’t even watch one single minute. It was interesting to see the drama surrounding the conference games and how disinterested the country was about the big game. For the winners, unless you had some ridiculous bet cooking in Vegas, your life probably didn’t change this morning. For the losers, the sun still came up, the birds still sang their songs and the world kept turning. And even for Saints fans who had the satisfaction of watching the Rams lose, who thought they were robbed and should have been in the Super Bowl, their day started pretty much the same today as yesterday. The fans of teams who won, lost or didn’t make it to the Super Bowl all have lives that didn’t really change because football is just a game and nothing more. To hear about the Rams player that was getting death threats against him and his family after the pass interference situation with the Saints was a little shocking. To think that people were that invested in their football team that they would make a threat on someone’s life was sad. I was driving from home this am and formulating my blog, thinking how clever I was going to be sharing about how things like the Super Bowl can make people so mad when it doesn’t really matter who won, when the Bluetooth from my phone didn’t connect to my car’s multimedia system and I got instantly mad. I immediately recognized that I was concerned about something that was a “first world problem” and exhibiting the same level of nonsense as the losing football fans I was going to roast in my blog. I say all of this to say we need to put everything on this earth and what we deal with in perspective. I firmly believe that the things that make us angry are a direct correlation of our walks with God. If we have a heavenly perspective on life then we will not be concerned about things that don’t really matter in eternity. Today is the day to take an inventory of your life and the things that concern you. If we truly say that we want the “mind of Christ” as believers then we will be asking God for a mind that is concerned about what he is concerned about and not the menial things that can make us nervous. To accomplish these things we need to make a conscious decision every day to have our mind set on God and what he wants for us by spending time with him reading the Bible and praying while asking for him to give us opportunities to share His love. When we are focused on how we can accomplish his goals each day on earth then we are less likely to be thrown by the problems that come up each day. Setting your mind of heavenly things is not easy with the struggles of life but in the end, it is always worth it. |
